Unveil and Once are built on the same promise: guests shoot on one shared roll, and the photos stay hidden until the reveal.
They even price alike. At every guest bracket the two apps share, the numbers match, down to the cent. Both open from a QR code with nothing to install. Both call the finished thing a film. The real differences sit in how strictly the roll is sealed, what the develop produces, and what happens past 200 guests.

The short answer
Pick Once if you want to adjust filters to taste, top up your guest count mid-event with paid add-ons, or host from the web while their Android app is in development.
Pick Unveil if you want the roll sealed from everyone until the reveal, the host included, with one film look chosen up front and developed into full-resolution photos on the phone itself. Joining from a QR code
This one lands close to even. Both apps hand guests a camera from a QR scan with nothing to install: on an iPhone the code opens an App Clip, and on other phones it opens in the browser. Grandparents manage fine with either.
The hosting side differs more. Both hosts run an iPhone app. Once also offers hosting through their web experience and says an Android app is in development, so an Android host has a path today with Once and does not with Unveil.
What the develop produces
Unveil develops each photo on the device it was shot on: the chosen film look is rendered into a full-resolution photo, and after the reveal anyone in the event can download the finished files. The look is decided when the event is created and applied to the whole roll, which is what makes the album feel like one film rather than fifty phone cameras.
Once describes its looks as filters you choose and adjust, with a subtle film feel. Their materials make no claims about output resolution, which mostly matters if you plan to print. If tuning the look to taste sounds appealing rather than limiting, that flexibility is a genuine point for Once.
How strictly the roll is sealed
Both apps delay the album. The difference is how far the seal goes. In Unveil, a photo disappears the moment it is taken and stays sealed from every person in the event, including the taker and including the host. The hub shows developing tiles under a heavy blur while the event runs. At the reveal time everyone opens the album together.
Once unlocks the film for everyone when its set duration runs out, with a custom unlock time as an option. That covers the same guest experience. Their materials leave the host's early access unstated, so we make no claim about it either way.
If the reveal is the moment you care about, the strictness of the seal is the thing to compare in person: create a free event in each and take one photo.
What each one costs
The ladders match. Free at 5 guests, $1.99 at 10, $4.99 at 25, $14.99 at 50, $29.99 at 100, and onward in step through 200 guests. Whichever app you pick, the guest list costs the same.
The edges differ. Once sells mid-event top-ups (ten extra participants for $3.99, fifty for $19.99), which is handy when a party outgrows its bracket. Unveil sells an unlimited-guests bracket at $99.99, where Once's public pricing stops at 200 and hands you to their contact form. Big weddings and company events are the cases where that ceiling matters.
The verdict
Once is the closest neighbour Unveil has, and at most brackets it costs exactly the same. Choose on the seal and the develop. If you want adjustable filters and the option to top up guests mid-party, Once fits. If you want the roll sealed from everyone including yourself, one look developed into full-resolution photos, and room past 200 guests, that is what Unveil is built for.
